An existing process – beet sugar production – was examined to extract the basic process streams. These process streams were then analyzed in Simulis Pinch, a process integration software package, in order to calculate the minimum heating and cooling demand as well as designing a heat exchanger network (HEN). The resulting utility demands and the calculated HEN was subsequently compared to an existing highly integrated process.
